Zed Tallies up More Than 76 Million BREW Downloads, Allows People Across the U.S. to Discover and Enjoy Content on their Phones
Zed Expands Distribution to Include New Platforms, Content Types and Carrier Partnerships
Denver - May 28, 2008 - Zed, the world's leading mobile entertainment company, today announced that more than 76 million downloads have been delivered to U.S. consumers through its family of BREW® applications since 2001. Zed in the U.S., formerly 9 Squared, also announced several significant milestones it achieved in the last year, including the launch of three BREW applications; U.S. Cellular's Tone Room, Univision Tonos and Voicemail MAX and has continued to broaden its flagship offering, RealTone JukeBox.
"Zed's success is a testament to the BREW ecosystem that incorporates major handset makers, developers, mobile entertainment companies and operators," said Kathy Braegger, head of developer relations for Qualcomm Internet Services. "Zed is an innovative partner in our developer program and we look forward to watching the new ways they'll utilize the BREW platform."
A piece of mobile content, including music ringtones, polyphonic ringtones, voicemail greetings and wallpapers, is downloaded every 1.5 seconds from Zed's BREW application catalog on operator decks throughout North and South America. Contributing to the extraordinary success of music-related BREW downloads are Zed's long-standing industry relationships with more than 30 tier one, two and three wireless operators, and some of the most recognizable names in the media and content industry.
"We've always thought of ourselves first and foremost as a media company and have leveraged the BREW platform to develop applications that deliver a first class content and consumer experience," said Brian Casazza, chief executive officer for Zed in the U.S. "Our ringtone business grew by 90 percent last year and we see significant opportunity to keep growing our business, boosting ARPU for our operator partners and providing new revenue channels for our friends in the music industry."
Specific product milestones include:
- Bilingual RealTone JukeBox: Zed's flagship product for previewing, downloading and discovering ringtones was updated with the ability to view content in Spanish or English to serve the growing Spanish-speaking audience in the US.
- Taking Univision Content Mobile: As a key element of its on-deck strategy for distributing Univision Móvil's content, Zed launched Univision Tonos, a BREW® discovery, search, preview and purchase ringtone application for top-tier carrier customers.
- New tunes for U.S. Cellular: Zed launched Tone Room, a new real music ringtone service exclusive to U.S. Cellular. The service offers several unique features which make it easy for consumers to discover, preview and purchase content. The service is accessible on-deck as a BREW application and through the Tone Room Web site, where consumers can purchase ringtones and send them directly to their handset.
- Personalizing Voicemail Greetings: With the launch of Zed's latest edition to its BREW family, the company pioneered a new type of mobile content. Voicemail MAX enables customers to personalize outgoing voicemail greetings with the voices of Hollywood stars, comedians, celebrity impersonators and top-selling music artists.
Zed's family of BREW applications delivers real music ringtones, polyphonic ringtones, voicemail greetings and wallpapers through the RealTone JukeBox, Univision Tonos, RingTone JukeBox, mTat2 Wallpapers, Voicemail MAX, Musica Real and GAC Country Ringtones.
